Fantastic game. March 4, 2006 Matt Simpson (British Columbia, Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Silent Hunter 3 is pretty much the most satisfying game I played in 2006. After you've stalked a convoy for what can literally be hours, I literally yelled at the computer when my torpedoes hit their targets, and yelled louder when they didn't.pPlus, the dynamic campaign gives it a whole lot of reply value, and the system of purchasing upgrades is a nice touch.pThe only downside to this game? It uses Starforce copy protection, which can wreak havok on some computers.
Awsome Game July 2, 2005 Jinxy the Destroyer Hunter :oP (Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thanks to those that posted about checking the requirements for the game. I was lucky enough to have what was needed. This is an awsome game. The controls take some time to get use to, but after you get good at steering, and aiming at those hard to hit destroyers, you'll soon be taking them out with 1 shot. I found the cannons on the bow helpful for those 4000m to 6000m Convoys to give a little help for when you finally get up close, but be careful, doing that means the destroyers or other battleships will be on you super duper fast! All in all a great game. Friends have commented on how realistic a lot of it looks. I hope to find an expansion for this game some day soon!!!! Oh, and check out the flags on the ships you are aiming at... I was having fun sinking ships from Canada... Didn't know we had that many back then!!!! - Laughs -
The Best Subsim Ever! March 29, 2005 UBootMann (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The most anticipated submarine simulator is now on patrol hunting for fat convoys. The immersion level will have you peering at your monitor rocking slowly back and forth as you search for that merchant contact on the horizon while your U-boat rides the stormy seas. This sim has kept me up till the wee hours conducting surface gun attacks and torpedo salvoes. This is one of the best naval sims. And it's hard! No fps unlimited ammo stuff here, real navigation, real torpedo set-ups, this game makes you use your head not just your thumbs.br So if you are into sims this is one of the best if not the best ever. For all you one-star reviewers, gimme a break, starforce schmarforce. This game runs fine on my machine no crashes, nothin' runs fabulous. Nothing I've ever played has been so much fun. But it is no wimpy game, very realistic as sim should be. So if you are up for a challenge Silent Hunter III is the sim to get. And Silent Hunter IV is in the works, hopefully it will be the Pacific so we can lay off Surabaya hunting fat tankers or the emperor's aircraft carriers in the Phillipine Sea. brNow if you'll excuse me I'm in shallow water off the Firth of Forth trying to evade Winston Chuchill's anti-submarine forces after sinking 12,000 tons of merchant shipping and dodging air attacks. ALLAAAARRRMMMMM........
Check system requirements March 24, 2005 Torpedoed (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
1 star is not an accurate rating as I am not able to play the game. Perhaps it is a 5* game, but I'll never know. Make sure you check the system requirement before ordering. You need a DVD/CD Rom, Pixel Shader 1.1 capabilties (whatever that is), and 512 Ram(1024 recomended)brI know it is my own fault for not doing more research (heck, I admit the second I heard this was coming out I had my credit card in hand to pre-order, without doing research)but even now I can't find anywhere on here about the system requirements... make sure you go to the UBI Soft main page to verify you can run this game before ordering.
Best sub sim of the decade!!! March 2, 2005 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
The sim community has high expectations of this gem, hopefully it will not be sunk under the weight of the FPS marketing teams eh.
